Luxury high-end apartments, holiday homes and chalets in the seaside resort of Fishcombe Cove, Brixham in Devon. We were required to assist with the design, structural calculations and manufacture of highly bespoke glazed balustrades.

Our brief was to design a post and balustrade system that included an offset timber top rail, a design that differs from our typical design. The height of the posts required was almost 1900mm, as the client required such a specific sized post this posed as a major challenge from a design perspective. To help support posts of this size, two separate steel work locations were required.

To overcome each of these challenges we built additional strength into the posts by inserting an inner tube to help achieve the relevant loading category required. To ensure the timber top rails fit with the aesthetics of each building we ensured the colour matched the cladding detailing of the homes.

As this project was meters from the sea, each component needed to be external grade material and mirror polished to withstand time, weather and the high levels of salt air. We also opted for Iroko timber for the rails and treated it with a suitable weatherproof stain.

Overall the finish on this project was beautiful and Balcony UK was able to meet every specific client requirement.
